Why Does My IPTV Have Interlacing Lines (Comb Effect)?

Fix IPTV Interlacing Lines and Comb Effect

Interlacing lines (also called the comb effect) appear as horizontal lines or jagged edges on moving objects in your IPTV stream. You notice it most during fast action like sports or camera pans. This happens when the video stream is interlaced but your display treats it as progressive.

What Causes Interlacing

  • Source content is interlaced - Many broadcast TV channels still transmit in 1080i (interlaced) format
  • Deinterlacing not working - Your device or player is not properly converting interlaced to progressive
  • Wrong output settings - Your device outputs 1080i instead of 1080p

Fix #1: Change Display Output Settings

On Firestick: Settings > Display & Sounds > Display > Video Resolution. Switch from 1080i to 1080p or 720p.

On Android TV: Settings > Device Preferences > Display > Screen Resolution. Select 1080p progressive.

On Windows: Right-click desktop > Display Settings > Resolution. Ensure 1080p (not 1080i) is selected.

Fix #2: Use a Better Video Player

Different players handle deinterlacing differently:

  • VLC Media Player - Has excellent deinterlacing. Go to Tools > Preferences > Video > Deinterlace and set to Auto or On.
  • MX Player - Hardware-accelerated deinterlacing on Android.
  • TiviMate - Better deinterlacing than most IPTV apps.

Fix #3: Adjust Deinterlacing Settings

In VLC: Tools > Preferences > Video > Deinterlace > Choose Yadif (2x) for the best quality deinterlacing.

In Kodi: Settings > Player > Video > Deinterlace video > Set to Yadif or Bob.

Fix #4: Lower the Resolution

If deinterlacing does not fix the issue, lower your stream resolution to 720p. At 720p, interlacing is not used, so the comb effect disappears entirely.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is interlacing a problem with my IPTV service?

No, interlacing is a display technique used by broadcast TV. Your IPTV service passes the original stream, and your device needs to properly deinterlace it.

Does interlacing happen on all channels?

Only channels broadcasting in 1080i format show interlacing. Channels in 720p, 1080p, or 4K do not have this issue.
